The Dogmatist – Psychological Thriller
When a revolutionary leader is interrogated by the state he fought against, a battle over ideology turns into a psychological trap that reveals his imprisonment is not what it seems.
Project Information:
The Dogmatist is a short psychological thriller developed in Fall 2025 and currently in post-production. The film is co-directed by longtime collaborators Daniel Kime and Michael Gurvey.
The film is a contained, performance-driven piece set inside a purpose-built prison. The set has been designed to allow for fluid camera movement while still maintaining a strong sense of confinement. The film is expected to run approximately 15 minutes.
Thematically, the film explores ideological rigidity and the pressure toward binary thinking in contemporary culture. It looks at what happens when belief hardens into dogma, and how systems of power both enforce and become trapped within those ways of thinking.
With a cast and crew of over 20, The Dogmatist represents a step into a more ambitious level of production for Daniel and Michael. Beyond being a standalone short, the film is intended to function as a building block toward future feature development and to help position the team for festival opportunities and Canadian film funding.
Principal photography took place between May 6-May 9th, 2026. The film is intended to be completed in August 2026, followed by the Film Festival circuit.
